A Provision for Love was a delightful read I really enjoyed it The plot was both unique and thoroughly engaging in order to win the inheritance of her beloved summer home, Bridgestone, Ivy must find a suitable husband according to her grandmother s strange list of requirements It quickly becomes apparent that the one Ivy is falling for is her opponent, Henry, who s also vying for her inheritance Despite her initial determination to dislike him, her heart has different ideas There were so many wonderful things about this story The plot was so much fun The grandmother s list of requirements for the perfect man was humorous and ridiculous, while also being quite insightful I loved how in the Author s Note we learn this list was based off a real antique letter Most of the chapters began with an item from this list, which set the stage for the events that followed, which I thought was a fun setup I really enjoyed the characters, especially Ivy s first person narration, which added some suspense as we, like Ivy, weren t quite sure what Henry was thinking Henry was wonderful he may have stolen a few pieces of my heart himself The Regency setting was also well done and the gardens of Bridgestone beautifully described I longed to tumble into the pages to visit Ivy s secret garden I loved the scenes that took place in the garden, but I especially adored the scenes with Henry He and Ivy were so cute together I loved how their feelings for one another gradually crept up on them Perhaps my favorite scenes between the two were Henry s adorable love letter and the scene underneath the table at Almacks I thought Ivy was rather stubborn in wanting a home rather than to marry for love it almost went on too long, but she came around in the end I loved the lesson she learned throughout her journey about the importance of love and allowing one s heart to write the list for its perfect match rather than relying on another s requirements Such a lovely message My only other real complaint is I felt that Henry never made an attempt to win Ivy s heart he just sat back like a martyr and let her be wooed by the duke even though it was causing him pain I d have liked to have seen him fight for her, which would have resulted in a fewadorable scenes between the wonderful couple Other than that, I thoroughly enjoyed everything about this wonderful story it had a fun plot, wonderful characters, lovely writing, and a cute romance Whatcould one ask for I received a complimentary copy and am voluntarily leaving a review. While my foot has been busted these last few weeks and I have been unable to move I have been devouring every book I can possibly find Because I bore easily while sitting on my duff, it has been easiest and best to read what I like to call vacation reads, whichoften than not equal clean regency romance, because I already understand the rules of the world and it doesn t require much brain power Just a fun escape is all I need With that said, I have probably read at least 10 of these types of books this last week, and this book was BY FAR my favorite It had a depth and feeling to it that most books of this genre definitely be lack And while the ending was utterly predictable from within the first few pages, the journey to that ending was a joy to experience The story was so adorable and enchantingly sweet So while most of the books I ll be rating on here this week will only have a rating most often rounded up because I m feeling generousbless these books for helping me not go insane while I wait for my foot to heal , this one definitely deserved a review Pick this one up if you want a good swoon. Love, the mystery that it was, knocked against my chest I would have to answer to it, for I could not bear the hollowness I just that quote Excellent wording Heather Chapman This is a delightful proper regency romance It read like a romantic comedy in my head It is about an inheritance that comes with a list of a particular type that begs the question of how one defines affection and if it can be listed and defined by person I liked all the characters and their personalities They each brought something extra to the overall story In particular I loved Lady Barrington, Ivy s grandmother, for her disposition and wit The snarky grandmother or aunt is always a fun addition to any story My only complaint would be a lack of description in tone or expressions in the dialogue There were some moments where I needed to puzzle out their reactions and words to discover the overall tone But that is minor and no detriment to the book it might even be due in part to the first person narrative I know many love reading that type of narrative in particular so here s a great option for you There is one part of the list you have yet to prove, Henry My repertoire His lips spread into an absurdly handsome grin. Loved this story I loved reading it from only Ivy s point of view I felt the anguish over her choice of suitor and her thoughts on if her affections were returned in someone she thought as a friend This is one of my favorite Regency stories in a long while.I received a free digital copy of this book in exchange for my honest opinion. I really, really liked this story It is about Miss Ivy Linfield s quest to own her loving grandfather s home Bridgestone She must marry by the end of the season to do so Otherwise the property will be inherited by Percival s heir his grandnephew Henry Thorne Henry loved Bridgestone just as much as Ivy did From the very beginning Ivy put Henry in the competitor s box and treated him that way She was determined to win no matter what However, a peculiar set of rule or guidelines were established in Percival s will that the gentleman she married must rise to and Henry was to be the judge of its adherence What a story It is whimsical, fun and delightfully entertaining The author swept from one scene to another without dallying or providing filler I found that style most refreshing and it made the story move smoothly and quickly along For the most part I enjoyed the characters Ivy s Grandmother was a force to be reckoned with, Henry was manly with a pure and loving soul But I had a little problem with Ivy s character As much as her grandmother claimed she had pluck I found her to get angry quickly and come to the wrong conclusions often She misinterpreted many signs of the type of man she was to marry and there was this feeling of helplessness surrounding her that did not sit right with me I did love the letters between her and her father I thought those were telling and really poignant In the end everyone got what they desired HEA A very good read.
